Status of the lockhead 57-actuator AO system

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Lockhead has operated a fifty-seven-actuator adaptive optics system in solar astronomy for several years. In this system, the wavefront phase distortions are measured with a Hartmann wavefront sensor and corrected by a nineteen-segment adaptive mirror. In the past, the Hartmann sensor used quadrant array detectors to make the phase measurements. We have recently tested a Hartmann sensor that uses position sensing devices instead of quad-cells.
