Abstract
Optics in New Mexico spans a wide variety of research, design, analysis, manufacturing, and instrumentation activities. The number of individuals and groups involved is also quite large. Historically, the major activities have involved lasers, electro-optics, nonlinear optics, deformable mirrors and phase conjugation, atmospheric optics and beam propagation, spectroscopy, and space optics. The development of various optics codes and manufacturing has also been a major activity. In addition to the above activities, currently there are various groups involved in lithography, image restoration, and enhancement. The manufacturing activities have also expanded into sophisticated areas like materials and metrology involving optics. This presentation will attempt to give details of these areas as well as the groups involved in the activities. Specific examples will be described in some detail.
