Abstract
A description is being developed of the spontaneous emission in a dielectric medium with the uniform magnetic field. A new, helical Cerenkov effect is deduced, whose power spectrum depends on the radius of curvature of the electron trajectory (measured in the plane perpendicular to the direction of the electron guiding center). In general, for beam energies of up to 10 MeV, indices of refraction (n) of up to 2, and magnetic fields of up to 5 T, the spontaneous emission may go into a large number of harmonics, covering the 10 to 106 GHz spectral region, where, for simplicity, one assumes that n varies slowly with the radiation frequency.
