Abstract
We have constructed an improved Fourier transform spectrometer, using two, common path, orthogonally oriented, ring interferometers.1,2 This field widened device uses a two-dimensional CCD detector to record a channeled, Fourier–Fraunhofer hologram which is produced from laterally sheared images of the light source. A numerical Fourier transform of this interferogram produces a high resolution spectrum. There is no need to limit the extent of the spectrum since the aliasing problem associated with broad band, high resolution spectra has been unraveled without the use of narrow band filters. The second orthogonally oriented ring interferometer sorts the normally overlapping orders formed when the interference pattern is undersampled. Spectra taken in the visible wavelength region using this dual interferometer will be shown.
