Abstract

As the applications of integrated optical and guided-wave techniques grow, the need for bistable integrated optical switches will arise. Recent results indicate strong nonlinearities in guided-wave multiple-quantum-well (MQW) structures, which maybe advantageous in the design of bistable optical switches.1 Here, we propose the use of periodic coupling techniques to construct integrated bistable switches.
