Abstract

There is at present a growing interest in developing photonic switching and signal-processing devices for future communications and computing applications. Because some optical devices can function in times shorter than those possible with electronics technology, it is tempting to suggest that photonic devices will be used in future signa1-processing systems to eliminate the current "electronics bottleneck".
