Abstract

Over the past 9 years there has been an increasing interest in digital optical systems, both computing and switching. It began in 1984 with a demonstration by USC of an optical master-slave flip-flop based on Hughes liquid crystal light valves as optical logic gates and holographic interconnects between the gates.[1]
