Abstract

Most optical data storage systems require compact, continuous-wave laser sources. The desirable features include the maintenance-free operations for the low noise(< −100 dB LIN), small output power drift(< ±3%) within the device life cycle(> 10,000 hours), wide range of operating temperature(10 ~ 35°C) and sufficient output power(> 20 mW). These requirements are easily satisfied with the near infrared semiconductor laser sources that are presently used in the database and audio/video systems.
