Abstract

We describe techniques that have been used to realize a CD, CD-R and CD-RW compatible DVD-RAM pickup. One objective lens having two aspherical surfaces can be used to read both DVDs and CDs. Chromatic aberration of beam shaping prism which resulted from reading/writing laser power change can be corrected by combining two prisms. And a holographic optical element (HOE) can be used to reduce push-pull tracking offset by detector deviation.
