Terabit/s WDM Transmission Technologies

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In early 1996 groups from Fujitsu, NTT, and Bell Labs/AT&T Laboratories simultaneously announced terabit/s transmission experiments. Although each group achieved the terabit/s capacity in different ways, all three efforts used some form of wavelength multiplexing (WDM). This paper will describe the three different terabit/s experiments and the role that WDM played in achieving this milesione.
