Abstract

Significant effect of optical pulse broadening on nonlinear refractive index n2 measurements by SPM at 1.55 µm is presented. Compensating optical pulse broadening, n2 of dispersion shifted fibers converge to around 2.2 × 10-20m2/W (<±3%) for random polarization states at 1.55 µm.
