Protection Switching for Optical Networks

Abstract

The existing practice of hardware duplication in optical systems can be avoided, without sacrificing system reliability, by providing protection switching in optical domain which results in bit rate transparency with enhanced features as compared to protection switching in electrical domain thereby, reducing system cost also.
