Enhanced Performance of DFB Lasers for Analog Communication Systems by the Introduction of Gain Coupling

Abstract

We have compared the second- and third-order harmonic distortion for a number of index-coupled, partly gain-coupled, and purely gain-coupled DFB lasers by numerical simulation. It is found that the gain coupling generally leads to either a reduction of the distortion or an increase in the single mode yield.
