Abstract

A waveguide-typed plasmonic mode-size converter (WPMC) is presented at a wavelength of 1.55 μm. The WPMC is composed of an insulator-metal-insulator-metal-insulator waveguide (IMIMI-W), a laterally tapered IMIMI-W and a MIM-W with lateral gold mirrors in series. The input Ss0 mode with the size of 5.9 μm × 4.8 μm is converted to the output gap-s0 (G-s0) mode with the size of ~1.1 μm × 0.5 μm. The total loss for the G-s0 mode converter is ~6.96 dB.
