Abstract

Coherent systems are an attractive option for optical multichannel transmission' such as video distribution. While polarization control or diversity add substantial complexity and therefore costs to each subscriber terminal, data-induced polarization switching (DIPS) shares the required birefringent component among many subscribers.2,3 As a result the optical part of the receiver can be fully integrated as of today,4 which is the key to bringing costs down.
