Abstract
Recently, the optical fiber has been used in new fields, such as oil refineries and power plants, where the ambient conditions are much more severe than usual. However, a fiber with metallic coating is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, high temperature, and pressure. Moreover, the metal coated fiber (MCF) is also solderable so that it can be used for other optical components, such as isolators, closures for undersea cable, etc.
