Module for simultaneous C + L-band dispersion compensation and Raman amplification

Today, dispersion compensating fibers (DCF) are optimized for single band compensation (S, C- or L band). Recently, Hirano et al.1 reported on a DCF, which when combined with standard single mode fiber gave a residual dispersion of ±0.25 ps/(nm km) from 1480 to 1620 nm and ~±0.22 ps/(nm km) from 1530 to 1610 nm. Here, we report on a DCF module for a prototype Raman optimized non zero dispersion fiber (NZDF), which gives a very small residual dispersion of ±0.07 ps/(nm km) in the combined C + L band from 1530 to 1610 nm.
