Abstract

The cavity-length dependence of the nonlinear-phase-shift of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) phase shifters was experimentally investigated for a Symmetric-Mach-Zehnder-type wavelength-converter for the first time. Studies of 42-GHz-cross-phase-modulation of SOAs showed that the phase-shift increased almost proportionally with active region length.
