Effect of Fiber Losses on Timing Jitter in Periodically Amplified Lightwave Systems

Abstract

We show that fiber losses produce an additional contribution to the timing jitter in a periodically amplified optical communication system and find that, the jitter enhancement is typically in the 30–35% range.
