Abstract
It is well known that birefringence is induced in a bent fiber.1 This is caused by the lateral internal stress proportional to the second-order term of the curvature. The bending-induced birefringence is useful in application to fiber-optic devices and sensors using single-mode fibers.2,3 In all the applications, it is of importance to distinguish contributions from many physical effects on one another in the output signal.4,5
