Software Design for STDCE-2 Video Ronchigram Analysis System

Abstract

The video ronchigram analysis system supports STDCE-2 a NASA space shuttle experiment designed to characterize the behavior of silicon oil in a microgravity environment. When a two centistoke oil is placed in chambers of varying size and heated it deforms. A single channel Rhonchi system has been developed to study the contour of this deformation. The data from this system is then recorded to videotape for analysis. The video ronchigram analysis system takes the videotaped images and produces maps of the oil surface.
