Abstract
It is still quite common for optical fabrication and optical coating to exist as equal but separate entities in many optical companies. Even in vertically integrated production facilities we find only minimal overlap in their respective activities. But between the fabrication of an optic and its subsequent coating there are a number of critical preparation steps that can determine the quality of the finished product.
