Extended Bandwidth Reflector Designs using Wavelets

Abstract

Quarterwave stacks have for many years been the building blocks of optical interference coating design. Rugates1, introduced in the 1980’s, have the advantage of being without harmonics seen with quarterwave stacks. Recently introduced wavelets2, as shown in Fig. 1, have the additional advantage of being without side lobes as well as being without harmonics.
