From previous studies on the characterization of MgF2 thin films co deposited with TiO2 films and with ZnSe films (1, 2), we have found that for both types of mixed films, the film hardness was increased, the adhesion to substrates improved, and most interesting, a controllable variation in refractive indices was obtained.
