Abstract

Measurements of the pressure shift of water vapor absorption lines have so far only been reported for very few lines in the 5 μm spectral region (1). Such measurements are required both for adjustment of model parameters in the theory of collision broadening (2)-(4) and remote sensing applications, e.g. water vapor differential absorption lidar measurements. Here it is well known that small frequency shifts of the emitted radiation produce quite large errors. The same errors could be produced by a shift of the line center with increasing height (decreasing pressure).
