Abstract
An observer's ability to discriminate fine spatial detail worsens under dim illumination. The change in spatial acuity with illumination is probably caused by several factors, including the physical nature of light and the optical and neural properties of the visual system. In this study, we examined the effect of the eye's optics on the decrease in spatial acuity at low light levels.
