Abstract
In the same period time where optical interconnects have assumed a dominant position in long haul telecommunications applications they have made only minor penetration into the computer network marketplace, and no penetration at all into the internal interconnections of computers. I shall describe some of the reasons for this, and some new developments that may encourage the use of optical interconnects within and between computers.
