Optical PE-Node Interconnection on Massively Parallel Computer RWC-1

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A massive parallel computer RWC-1 has 1024PE nodes. The PE nodes are connected with a novel network called MDCE (multidimensional directed cycles ensemble) using ECL differential lines. With these conventional electrical interconnection technologies, we have come up against serious implementation problems (edge-board pin limitation, etc.). Adopting optical interconnection technologies, RWC-1 not only breaks through these limitations, it also makes its implementation easy to construct a large scale computer system.
