Abstract
The vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) and ultraviolet (UV) absorption and excitation spectroscopic features of the Tb3+ ion in LiLuF4 crystal hosts are due to transitions between the levels of 4f8 single configuration and the levels of 4f75d mixed configuration (where a 41 electron is promoted to a 5d localized band). These transitions with strong Frank-Condon factors are responsible for the observed broad band spectra of the Tb3+ ion1 when it is excited by coherent radiation from the pulsed discharge molecular fluorine Laser at 157 nm.
