Abstract

Recently, optical responses of quantum well excitons embedded in a planar microcavity have been studied extensively. When the exciton-photon coupling becomes strong, the system shows the normal mode (NM) splitting.1,4 The resultant coupled modes are often called cavity-polariton modes. Although much work has been devoted to this, the features that are beyond the scheme of classical cavity optics with dispersive medium have not yet been found. In this report we present a new experimental and theoretical results where the cavity polaritons play crucial roles.
