Direct multiphoton excitation of molecular ions produces selectively excited fragments

Abstract

Strong field induced vacuum ultraviolet fluorescence in argon and molecular nitrogen reveals many excitation processes. Intriguingly, direct laser excitation is exclusive to molecules and selectively produces excited ion fragments with 2s holes.
