Abstract

Extensive measurements of two-dimensional horizontal flow fields were made with the NASA/Marshall coherent CO2 Doppler lidar system during the summer of 1981. Data was obtained at altitudes from near the surface to above 10 km, in a variety of weather conditions, and over terrain ranging from smooth to very complex. Preliminary analysis of data obtained over this wide range of situations indicates that the system is capable of vector flow measurements at ranges to 5-15 km with accuracies on the order of 1 m/s.
