Abstract

1. The optical Bloch equations predict the lorentzian shape of a hole burnt in the population of atoms by laser light. This hole is related to the exponential echo-signal by the Fourier-transformation Eq.(1) is also used [1] for ultrafast nonexponential dephasing which is usually related to the existence of the phonon side band in an optical spectra.
