On the Equalisation Requirements for Scalable SDM Transmission

Abstract

We review our recent work on principal modes for high-capacity coherent SDM transmission. The number of spatial data tributaries is scaled up with reduced equalisation complexity under mode-dependent loss and modal dynamics.
