Abstract
Here we study theoretically the diffraction by lamellar transmission gratings, using both a rigorous model [1] and an approximate method combining plane-wave electromagnetism with Fourier optics. We compare our calculations with measurements [2], and find the grating thickness which maximizes diffraction efficiencies in transmission.
