Abstract

A pulsed, tunable coherent vacuum uv source which uses the method of two-photon resonant sum frequency mixing in a Mg Kr mixture, was emloyed for pumping through one of the weak intercombination lines individual rotational vibrational levels of different perturbed triplet states in the CO molecule. All measurements were done under collision free conditions either with a pulsed nozzle beam or a gas cell at about 5 mTorr.
