Self-Focusing of Intense Subpicosecond Laser Pulses in a Low Pressure Gas

Abstract

Multiple foci formation in a gas cell with a high peak power, subpicosecond laser is reported. It results from the combined effects of nonlinear refractive index and defocusing by the laser-generated plasma.
