Abstract
The present study is devoted to the assessment of a simple and cost-effective optical system for cutaneous oxygen determination. The pilot study comprised 6 healthy volunteers. To induce alterations of cutaneous oxygenation two occlusion protocols were utilized. Obtained saturation values were comparable to those reported by other studies and were within the physiological range: during baseline: 75-95%, at the end of occlusion: 25-35%, and during post occlusive reactive hyperemia: maximal. It has been concluded that our developed portable optical system can provide consistent values of cutaneous oxygenation and may be utilized at the bedside for monitoring of patients, however further studies are required to collect more data.
