Assessment of Preterm Birth Risk by Collagen Scoring with Polarized Light in Mice Model of Pregnancy

Abstract

Polarimetric images of thin histological sections of uterine cervices from non-pregnant and pregnant mice were recorded with Mueller matrix microscope. The results of two-Gaussian fit of the distributions of linear scalar retardance of cervical tissue demonstrated that imaging Mueller polarimetry may quantify the evolution of cervical collagen with pregnancy. It opens the avenue for a fast and non-contact polarimetric assessment of the preterm birth risk.
