Abstract

In comparison with bulk crystals, semiconductor-doped glasses (SDG) attract a specific interest particulary due to short relaxation times of their optical nonlinearities. The investigation of the fastest room-temperature nonlinearities of SDG by means of excite-and-probe technique is reported on in the paper. We used the third harmonic of KGd(WO4)2: Nd3+ laser radiation (FWHM duration 5 ps, quantum energy 3.05 eV) for band-to-band excitation of semiconductor microcrystals, and the output of parametric generator, pumped by the second harmonic of the same laser, for probing.
