Abstract

The Lunar Terrain Imager (LUTI) is a crucial scientific instrument aboard the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter. We present an analysis of the optical design, assembly, and performance of the LUTI camera system. We outline the key components and technical specifications of the cameras and detail the assembly and alignment process, including collimator calibration and the knife-edge scanning technique for modulation transfer function measurements. Furthermore, the thermal vacuum optical performance of the LUTI is evaluated by simulating space conditions. The optical design, assembly, and thermal vacuum performance testing make the system valuable for high-resolution lunar surface imaging and future space exploration missions.
