Abstract
In a recent article, the absorption and fluorescence techniques were compared quantitatively for low concentration measurements with signal/noise ratio (SNR) considerations. The approach used is basically correct. It provides a simple but powerful means to focus on the basic SNR differences between fluorescence and absorption measurements. Some of the final conclusions reached in Ref. 1 are incorrect or not valid in some cases due to errors in some of the equations and due to some assumptions made. The purpose of this article is to correct the incorrect equations and to reevaluate certain conclusions.
