Article Metrics

Citation counts and download metrics are available for all published articles via the left menu on the article's abstract page. Users can also sign up to be alerted by email when a paper is cited. We participate in Crossref's Cited-By Linking service. Citing articles from our journals and other participating publishers are included.

Article Sharing

Collaboration and sharing of research results is essential to the progress of science. We support the sharing of work at all stages of publication, from posting of preprints to sharing final published versions.

Our journal articles are published under a variety of licenses. They are summarized here, and more descriptive information about how content can be shared and reused under each of these licenses is available here.

We support the STM Voluntary principles for article sharing on scholarly collaboration networks. These clarify, how, where, and what content should be shared using scholarly collaboration networks and sites. More information can be found on the How Can I Share It? website.

All our journals provide social media sharing options on the article abstract page, as well as the ability for users to export the article citation in various reference manager formats.

Spotlight on Optics and Editors' Picks

Editors' Picks are articles that the editors feel cover interesting and significant results in the field and/or are written and presented particularly well. They are highlighted in the Journal's Table of Contents list and in marketing campaigns, and often on social media.

Spotlight on Optics are based on similarly high-quality articles, but they are also interesting to the broader scientific community and have a short summary written about them as well as being highlighted. Spotlight on Optics features articles nominated by Optica Publishing Group editors to show the breadth and quality of our content and are categorized using six major topic areas: Information Acquisitions, Processing, and Display; Light-Matter Interactions; Optical Design and Instrumentation; Optics in Biology and Medicine; Optoelectronics; and Vision and Color. Readers are invited to post comments to the Spotlight website, creating the potential for dialogue between author and reader (and among readers).

Promotion

We provide journal table of contents alert emails and regularly distributes email announcements about top-downloaded papers, feature issues and topical collections. Select articles may be chosen for additional promotion via press release or on our social media channels, Twitter @OpticaPubsGroup, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

There are several ways you can increase the exposure of your recently published article.

• Update any preprints with a link to the final published version.
• Generate a plain-language, graphical, or video summary that explains your results in terms that can be understood by non-experts.
• Share the article and your summary on social media.
• Blog about your work.
• Email a link to your article to colleagues and collaborators.
• If your work is newsworthy, contact your institution's press office about generating a press release. If your institution is preparing a press release, please notify usmedia relations team for possible coordination of promotional efforts.

ORCID iD

ORCID is an Open Researcher and Contributor ID registry, providing a persistent unique identifier for researchers and scholars. It supports automates linkages between researchers and their professional activities such as publications, grants, and patents. We encourage the use of ORCID iDs in published papers, and authors can link their ORCID iD to their Optica Publishing Group account during the article submission process. Co-authors can also link their ORCID iD to their Optica Publishing Group account any time prior to the final manuscript decision. We are unable to link ORCID iDs to manuscripts after they enter the production process. Articles can also be manually added to an ORCID account after publication.
