6. Assessing Presentation

Figures, References, and Supporting Information

References and Supporting Information

Books Recolored

References should be sufficient to support the research question. The authors should not have overlooked any seminal references in the existing literature about their method. If critical citations are missing, you should point them out in your review.

If authors excessively cite their own work, you should note this in your review as well. Your review should provide recommendations for alternative outside references to replace self-citations if possible. If providing such recommendations, you may also need to suggest updates to the methods, data analysis, or conclusions in relation to the newly referenced work.

Supplemental material (visualizations, data sets, code, etc.) should also be evaluated as part of your review. Instructions for authors regarding supplementary materials can be found on our Author Guidelines for Supplementary Materials in Optica Publishing Group Journals page. Issues with supplemental material, such as inconsistencies between the supporting information and manuscript, or missing or incorrect data, should be noted in your review comments.
