2. Peer Review at Optica

Becoming a Reviewer

How Do You Become a Reviewer?

Becoming a reviewer can take some time. Creating and updating your account in our system is just the first step. Editors select appropriate reviewers for each paper based not only on expertise keywords but also on information such as publication records, prior reviewing experience, or personal knowledge and recommendations. You are more likely to be chosen as a reviewer of a particular paper if you have also published articles on that topic, for example.

Reviewer database

Sources Optica Publishing Group editors use to find reviewers include:

  • Prism author database – All Optica Publishing Group journal authors, including co-authors, are automatically included in Prism’s reviewer database.
  • Optica account profile – Research interests are used by editors to match reviewers with papers (keep your profile up-to-date!).
  • Manuscript references – One of your papers is referenced in the manuscript; researchers are often interested in reading a manuscript that cites one of their papers.
  • Publication record – You are asked because of your publication record, conference talks, or your expertise in a topical area.
