Abstract
In this paper, an accurate three-dimensional (3D) analytical solution is proposed to calculate the projective capacitances of touch panels. In this study, selected symmetrical patterns were investigated for the calculation. We first decomposed the 3D structure into symmetrical slices such that each slice was regarded as a 2D structure and solved by close-form analytical solutions. The total distributions of the electrical field intensities were summed by all the fields of the related slices. In this paper, the precision of our analytical method will be examined for a diamond and a triangular patterns by the self or mutual driving method. These results showed only 5% difference from those of the numerical simulation by Q3D while the computation time was reduced from about 1 h by Q3D to a few tens of seconds by our method for the same structure.
