Analytic Study of the Modulation Response of Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We study the modulation response of a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) operated by directly modulating its injection current. We derive an analytic expression for the 3 dB modulation bandwidth, and characterize its dependence on the main RSOA parameters. Our study is based on a reduced model for the nonlinear RSOA response.
