Abstract
We investigate the use of the pulse delay method based on supercontinuum laser for measuring the dispersion curve of optical fibers. The proposed method is based on the dispersive Fourier transform (DFT), by obtaining the free spectral range (FSR) of the interference spectrum and its corresponding time delay to calculate the dispersion directly. It offers advantages such as high accuracy, fast measurement speed, and a wide spectral range. The proposed dispersion measurement system is based on the Michelson interferometer, characterized by its simple structure and ease of adjustment, so that the dispersion of the whole wide spectrum can be obtained by one measurement. We use the phase demodulation algorithm to accurately locate the FSR and its corresponding delay in spectral domain and time domain, so as to improve the measurement accuracy of dispersion. Furthermore, the proposed method allows for the measurement of dispersion in multiple devices with a single adjustment, holding vital significance in fields such as fiber optic communication and fiber optic sensing.
