Abstract
The self-organization process in liquid-crystal structures based on complexes with charge transfer between an organic donor and fullerene has been studied for the first time. It is shown that the switching times of the systems studied here can be reduced from the millisecond to the microsecond time interval. A possible physical mechanism is proposed for the process studied here, associated with a nematic-smectic transition stimulated by complex formation.© 2004 Optical Society of America
