Abstract
This paper discusses how the main characteristics of a focused beam in a laser complex (the beam-waist diameter d0 and position Delta S, the radiation intensity I, and the length lc of the caustic) depend on the control voltage U on a deformable mirror. It is established that the use of deformable mirrors in laser cutting of metal-plate materials improves its quality in virtually all parameters. In particular, when 8.5-mm-thick stainless steel was cut at a rate of 460 mm/min, the surface roughness of the cut was reduced by a factor of 1.5, and the depth of the high-quality cutting was increased by a factor of 3. © 2005 Optical Society of America
